Is this your first time to conference? Don't worry, we are here to help

If you haven't been to a National Conference before then this is a great year to start!

Conference can be a daunting prospect, especially if you're on your own, especially if you're new to the industry and especially if you've never been before. We are here to answer all your questions, help you know what to expect and maybe even help you find a friend along the way.

Here are some common questions about conference that you may have if you haven't attended before.

Can I attend on my own?
Yes! You can absolutely attend on your own, in fact, this is how most of our conference delegates attend. Many people come to conference and don't know anyone else in attendance. The good news is that you are amongst friends! Almost everyone will remember their first conference and will remember what it was like not knowing anyone, so don't be afraid to introduce yourself to the person next to you - chances are they're attending solo as well.

Can I attend as a group with the other people at my clinic?
Yes! We love seeing the whole team enjoy conference together. If you have a group of 3 or more of you that want to attend conference please email us to arrange a special group discount for you.

Who will be there?
The cool kids. If you would also like to be a cool kid, then you should be there too.

While we're not joking about the cool kids, there will be other people there too. This year, at our in-person events our Co CEOs will be in attendance, along with our presenters (3 presenters at each location), our exhibitors and MA board members. You will have the chance to chat with, meet and generally mingle with everyone throughout the day.

How does conference day work?

Typically our in-person conference day is BIG. The day usually includes a series of presentations in a large room with seating. There is no pre-set seating, you can choose where you sit, and we encourage you to introduce yourself to your fellow delegates and start up a conversation - you never know who you will meet at conference!

Online conference day runs all day live online. When you join us online you won't be on camera, but you will be able to see the presenter and their slides. That means you can join us from your couch in your PJs or you can listen while you're at work in between patients, or from a beach in Bali - the choice is yours!
There will be two live streams happening concurrently, so you can pick who you want to listen to. Don't worry about missing a presentation during the day as you will have access to all the recordings after conference. We encourage you to join us live on the day as this will give you the opportunity to ask questions of our presenters and other other delegates via our chat function on the conference platform.

What's included in my ticket price?
Your in-person conference registration includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, including celebration drinks. There is unlimited networking on the day, unlimited opportunities to meet and chat with other Myos, your Association CEOs, MA board members and of course our wonderful presenters.

Your online conference registration includes access to the live streams on conference day, access to all the recordings for 12 months following conference, presenter resources and support materials. It also includes access to our digital exhibitor booths, conference sponsors and the digital delegate goodie bag.

What do I need to bring?
Yourself, most importantly. Aside from that you may like to bring a pen and notebook if you wish to take some notes during the presentations, a water bottle (because hydration) and your stamina (it's going to be a big day!). Everything else will be provided.

For our conference connect events if you have very specific dietary requirements and you have any concerns about food being available; we suggest that you bring yourself a snack. We do our very best to ensure we cater to everyone's dietary needs (make sure you list your dietaries when you register!), but just in case it's always good to ensure you have snacks on hand that you know you can eat.

Is conference just about getting your PD done?
You can choose to focus on how many PD points you get for coming to conference... But it is about so much more than that. Conference provides the opportunity for learning, networking, getting access to new products, services and support within the industry. Many people choose to attend conference not just for the PD points but for the inspiration, to meet new people, stay current and hear different views from leaders in the industry, and to grow their career.

As our biggest event of the year, we think conference is so much more than just another PD event. So if you've never been before now is the time to come along and see what all the fuss is about. But if you're still wondering... yes, all conference events can count towards you PD.

Some tips for Conference First Timers (in-person)

  • Do come ready for a day of chatting to people, meeting new people, and perhaps even running into old friends.
  • Do wear comfortable clothes for a day of sitting, listening and learning.
  • Do introduce yourself to the person next to you or to the random group of people at lunch. Conference is as much about learning as it is about networking and sharing the experience with other Myotherapists.
  • Don't worry about forgetting people's names - everyone gets a lanyard with their name on it.
  • Don't bring a heavy bag of 'stuff', you'll have to carry it around all day. We will give you a goodie bag to put your notebook, pen and any flyers and samples you get during the day in.
  • Do stay for the celebration drinks at the end of the day.

Conferencing Online? Here's some top tips

  • Do block out some time on the day to listen live, this not only contributes to your FORMAL PD points, but it is also a great way to ask questions of the presenter at the end.
  • Do check out the schedule prior to conference day so you know when your favourite and 'must see' presenters are on.
  • Don't assume that the online presentations are the same as the in-person presentations - they are different. Some presenters are the same, however their presentations will be different.
  • Do look out for presenters that you haven't heard from before. Conference is an excellent opportunity to hear from people that you would not normally get to see at PD events during the year.
  • Do make use of the 'brain breaks' during the day. These are opportunities for you to get up and step away from the computer, move around and generally give your brain a break before the next speaker.
  • Do make sure you head over to the exhibitor and sponsor section. Check out their resources, follow them of socials and check out their websites.
